Sweden Pays High School Students $187 to Attend School: The Good, Bad and Ugly
The Swedish government actually pays $187 for every high school student between the ages of 16-20years just to attend classes!

Now I feel like going back to high school and probably just staying there for an extra three years, but who am I kidding?! What's more? These grants are automatically available to every student of Swedish origin. No need to stress your pretty head on applying online, offline or anywhere for that matter; except, of course, you're an international student, then you need to apply if you want to benefit from the grant legally. So what do you think? Is the $187 worth the investment by the government? Or is the government just wasting money on a fool's errand? Who losses from this impressive arrangement? Who wins? For starters, everybody knows that there is a relationship between school dropout and crime; thus the higher the number of students who graduate high school the lower the likelihood of crime within the country. This benefits the society, government and of course each student! Apart from crime reduction, there are also other huge financial gains from paying high school student to attend classes. Did you know that high school graduates contribute to Sweden’s Gross Domestic Product? This benefits the economy, government, citizens and most importantly the students themselves. The government spends less on social welfare programs. If more students finish high school, it means more students are going to complete higher education and eventually get gainful employment, thus reducing the amount spent on warfare. This benefits, the government, society and again the students who make good use of this provision. This $187 monthly payment by the Swedish government also allows all high school students who cannot afford their tuition fees but are genuinely interested in going to school to graduate and even have little savings. This stands to benefit the students, the government, and the entire society. With all these benefits here and there, could it be that there is absolutely no downside to this arrangement? Hell no! There's a downside, but it would seem as though the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, but let's consider it anyway. Personally, the only downside I see in this arrangement is that; some students may attend school just because of the financial benefits (they would think of the cash as more or less a bribe). As this happens, the entire purpose of education is defeated. The good thing is that not everybody sees it that way. Some students will value this support and make the best out of it all. Despite this only disadvantage, the fact remains that paying students who attend high school is beneficial to the Swedish government, individual families, and the Swedish society as a whole. Way to go Sweden!
